A Little Fun With Lashes

The lady without a nose (copyright 2012 Janet Powers)

When I go grocery shopping, I browse down the make-up isles to see what's on sale.  One day, I came across some beauty enhancers called "false eye lashes."  The price was a whole $1 so I thought I'd have a little fun and try them.

I really liked the way they looked but they took some getting used to.  One corner kept falling off and that was irritating.  I think, if I learned to put them on properly, I'd like to use them more often!  LOL!  It was fun batting my lashes at my husband.  He got a kick out of it too calling me all kinds of names like Tammy. ;)

Have you ever tried false eyelashes?  What did you think of it?

The Simple Woman's Daybook August 29, 2012

For Today... (Which was yesterday!)

Outside my window... beautiful woods and warm air, perfect weather.

I am thinking...  about these Siamese twin girls that I am watching on TV with my son.  He loves people so much and is very curious about how they function, how many hearts they have, etc.

I am thankful for... learning the power of speaking God's Word out loud.  Wow!

From the kitchen... homemade waffles for breakfast.  I used an old recipe that doesn't use sugar.  Just the good stuff!

I am creating... new jewelry designs.  A lady at church turned 80 and I made her a long necklace, chandelier earrings (she likes that), and a bracelet with a tiny princess charm.

I am going... well... I'm hoping to go back to the Indiana Dunes State Park so the boys can climb up some of those big hills again.  ( See my post here. )

I am reading... Proverbs and I am loving it!  I just finished reading Galatians through Jude.  That was a treat since I like to stay in the Old Testament.

I am hoping... to start home parties for my Jewelry Business. That will be a blast and very successful!

I am hearing... my son talking to his dad in the other room.  Sweet...

Around the house... normal stuff.  So glad for that!

One of my favorite things... serving dinner to the poor and homeless downtown Chicago as a family and as a church family.  We went this week and it was quite a night.  The boys get educated on city life and on people who have given everything for drugs, sex, and alcohol.  We get to be the hands, feet, and mouths of Jesus.  In the past couple of weeks, three people have accepted Christ as their Savior, 1 person got delivered of 3 demons, and hugs all around to some lovely people who just needed a friend.

A few plans for the rest of the week... hopefully a normal week full of God's blessing and favor.
He is so good to us.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing... from my garden.  I picked this all in one day!

The Trip To The Lake That Looks Like An Ocean! Indiana Dunes State Park

Last week was the start of our homeschool.  To kick it off right, we went on a field trip the third day!  LOL! We decided to take a day trip to Lake Michigan and visit the Indiana Dunes State Park.  If you live in the Chicago area, the southern part of Michigan, or the northern part of Indiana, this park would be a day trip for you too!

If you decided to see Lake Michigan and the dunes, I recommend going to the Indiana Dunes State Park. The other dunes parks in northern Indiana are known to be "party" places, not the most wholesome places for families.

So, we get there and find the trail that a friend told me about.  This was trail number 7.  It's not too difficult but isn't exactly a cake walk either!  Who wants cake when you are trecking through the woods on sand hills anyway?  Right off the bat there is a pretty steep sand hill to climb.  Instantly I thought, oh my... how many more of these are we going to have to climb?  Ok... I can do this.

As we hiked up and down some smaller "doable" hills and trails things went ok.  It was quite lovely and natural.  We did have a couple of steep hills along the way but I did it.

Then, we were almost to the beach on trail number 7 and came to a cross roads with trail number 8. Trail 7 continued straight in front of us at a decent, easy to manage rate, but not trail 8.  When looking to the right, trail 8 was a HUGE mountain of sand.  You could tell by the blue sky at the top that it lead to some sort of clearing.

The boys decided to climb up trail 8 to see what was at the top.  Our oldest was so excited that he ran most of the way up trudging through fairly deep sand for a trail. I have NO idea how he managed.  After the boys got to the top they started yelling out, "Come on!!  Mom & Dad, come up here!  It's awesome!"

I wasn't sure if I should believe them or not!  LOL!  Were they just saying that to watch us struggle up this huge mountain of sand or was there something spectacular to see?

My loving husband decided we should do it.  I reluctantly obliged and started up the hot sand.  Have mercy! Each step I took, my foot sunk in the sand up to the top of my shoe and slid backward about 6 inches.  How on earth am I supposed to get to the top at that rate?

About halfway up the mountain, my body started burning.  By the time I got to the top, my head was throbbing!  You know when you exercise too much and your head starts throbbing from the stress and the heat?

I kept telling my husband that it felt like my head was going to explode!

So, was the view worth it?  ....wellll.... kind of....  ;)

It was worth it to see my boys excited about the climb.  It was worth it to see God's beauty and experience it as a family.  It was worth it to be out of the "class room" of our homeschool.  It was worth it for the boys to learn about nature by being in it!

Yeah, it was worth it.  ...smiles...

The easy stroll back down the mountain to the blessed beach!

Yeah, we glow white! But we won't get skin cancer. ;)

Son 2 (13) skipping rocks

Even the husband got his white feet wet!

All in all, it was a wonderful trip!

I highly recommend a visit to Indiana Dunes State Park for any family or homeschool.  It is fun and educational!

God is so glorious!

Everything Really Is Beautiful! How my shop was born

Everything Beautiful was born out of a desire to bless. I wanted to bless some single moms with jewelry, so I set out to learn how to make it. The next thing I knew, I was in the bead isle at the local craft store admiring "everything beautiful!" Before too long, an Etsy store was formed! Wow! That was quick.

I love to leave the door open as I design and create. My garden, hummingbirds, and flowers are all very inspirational to me. I love the way nature makes me feel....artsy and close to the Creator!

I like to design unique jewelry that is an inspiration to anyone who sees it or wears it. Many of my pieces are either totally unique or there are only 2-3 in existence. My absolute favorite thing to do is custom pieces.

My studio takes up about a quarter of my dining room and my family is gracious enough to share it! It is physically located just outside of Chicago ~ far enough away to live in the country but close enough to enjoy the windy city!

Saving Money on Groceries ~ I'm looking for practical answers

(photo from sxc.hu)

I am looking for help!  I 'd like to save more money on groceries but I am not interested in super couponing... or any couponing at all to be honest. Our area of the country isn't set up well for couponing (no doubles and such).

I'd love to hear other ideas.  I'm open to things like:

  • Buying in bulk
  • Sale shopping
  • Freezer cooking
  • Menu planning

I know that these ideas are out there but I'd love to know just how YOU do it!  Is anyone willing to share their tips?  ...I sound desperate don't I? ... : /

Many Wonderful Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

It is amazing how many things apple cider vinegar is good for!  I use it on a regular basis and am always amazed when I find out what else vinegar is good for.

Do you use it?  If so, what do you use it for?

Several times a year, our whole church goes on a fast. (That's amazing isn't it?) MANY people have been supernaturally healed through fasting.  About a year ago, a man and his wife chose to do a total food fast.  (This takes a lot of special care.) During their fast, they started putting apple cider vinegar in their water bottles and drink it.  The man noticed that his heartburn had gone away, so he quit taking his heartburn medicine.

The man had been on heartburn medicine for many, many years.  He figured it up and discovered he had spent over $9,000 on medicine over the years.

Praise God!  He doesn't have to take it anymore.  He is healed!

Do you have a wart or need to lose weight?  ...Apple cider vinegar.
Does your pet have fleas?  ...Apple cider vinegar.
Do you have diabetes? ...Apple cider vinegar.
Heartburn? ...Apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar is good for

  • Weightloss
  • Pets
  • Cooking
  • Cleaner
  • Deoderizer
  • And SO much more

Remembering Back

My dear beautiful friend, Jen, at the Beautiful Mess blog posted a pic from when she was young.  I thought it would be fun to do!

Not that I'm a super model now but... so that you don't think I still look like that (the old pic) I am going to post a new pic with it.  LOL!

...and speaking of pics.  I need to redo this blog header.  I don't have blond hair anymore.  My hair is now dark brown (closer to what it is suppossed to be) with a purple hint.

Me (left) and my girlfriend from 4th grade.
We were about 18 years old.

Me and my grandma just a few months ago.

Me and hubs last fall.

How bout you?  If you post some old pics of yourself, leave a comment and link so we can see!

Janet Climbs Mt. Washmore ~ Saving Money on Fabric Softener

Once upon a time, Janet was hiking up Mt. Washmore (my laundry pile).  It was huge.  No matter how high one hikes up this mountain, she never reaches her destination.  ...smiles...

As Janet continued into the clouds on her hike, she found that she was out of fabric sheets.  Even though she knows FULL well that fabric sheets aren't healthy, she was being.... shall we say... lazy?  It was so convenient to just throw the sheet into the dryer.

What is an expert Mt. Washmore hiker to do when she is out of fabric sheets?  Oh wait!  She spotted a wash cloth just lying around.  It's actually in the shape of a fabric sheet.  (Does the shape matter? LOL)

Janet had the bright idea to wet the wash cloth, put a small amount of liquid fabric softener (which she got on sale for $1.66) on the cloth, and carefully throw it in the dryer with the laundry.  (She carefully put it in so that the liquid didn't get splattered right away on the laundry.)

Miss Janet discovered that her $1.66 fabric softener lasted for at least 4 months!  That is just .41 cents a month for fabric softener!  Approximately .01 cents per day!  (a day, not a load)

That's SOME savings!  ....Now if miss Janet could just figure out how to get her grocery bill down without super couponing...

*If you are the all natural kind of girl, you could really save on the expensive organic type of liquids as well.
*If you want to save even more, dilute your fabric softener with white vinegar... no it doesn't stink!

Healing in the Word of God

1. Is the Word of God TRUTH?
2. Do you believe every verse of it?

Have you ever searched to see what the Word says about healing?  It's quite amazing!  You must first make up your mind that you believe what the Word says... every bit of it.

Here is my video:  The Word of God Brings Healing

Sick and tired of being sick and tired?

Here are a couple of videos to help you with that.  Dr. Don Colbert knows what the Bible has to say about health and vitality!  I have several testimonies to go a long with his teachings that I will share with you later.
