Thankful Thursdays

Thankful Thursday at Truth 4 the Journey

Going through a trial is tough. That's the point! But going through a trial with Jesus will give you peace!

We are going through a FEW fires right now. Dream Latte and I were reading Exodus together and finally finished but needed to decide on another book to do. We decided on 1 & 2 Peter.

Verses 6-7 were so obviously meant for us right now but verse 8 made me cry.

"and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, "

I love Jesus even though I have not seen Him with my eyes. I have seen Him work in my life and I KNOW that He is there. Even though I am going through some fires, I know that He is the 4th man in the fire (Daniel)! Even though I am going through a trial I can still rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory!

1. I am thankful for Jesus' peace

2. I am thankful for my Dream Latte and our wonderful marriage of 14 years. I am thankful for how much he helps me!

3. I am thankful for our boys. Espresso who is such a quiet love and Double Espresso who is love out loud!

4. I am thankful that I homeschool. I am SO looking forward to what we will learn this year!

5. I am thankful that I am still learning as an adult and haven't settled into a boring RUT!

Way Too Funny!

This is way too funny (and personal). Espresso came to me VERY DISTURBED! He had a pair of ladies undies on a stick. He said that he found them stuck up in a tree by the end of the driveway. We told him to throw them away and decided to just leave it at that. Crazy thing is, I recognized them!!

Well, I got to thinking and realized that I recently cleaned out my undies drawer and threw a bunch away. My FIL has been having problems with raccoons and I put 2 and 2 together! Raccoons must have raided the trash and took my undies up into a tree!!! Oh dear!

Espresso came to us about 5 minutes later with his imagination running. He started making statements and asking questions about how this may have happened. I QUICKLY jumped in and decided to tell him what I thought had happened. His mind was set at ease and of course he got a good laugh out of it!

Snack Rations - Works For Me Wednesday

(Check out Thankful Thursdays!)

Do you have a child who won't stay out of snacks? Besides discipline ideas (I'm not even going there) I have a creative way that "Works For Me!"

Take your snacks (cookies, granola bars, and especially sugary snacks) and put them in a large Ziploc bag. Mark the bag with your child's name and lay down the LAW!

"These are your snacks for the WEEK! Eat them in 3 days and they are gone. Eat them over a period of 6 days and you will have enough for the week! When you run out, you are done for the week!"

Now, you really have to mean it! You have to stick to your guns if your child eats their snacks too quickly. Otherwise it is useless.

I did this with the 2 Espressos and they had PLENTY of snacks left over for the next week. They were scared to pig out for fear that they would run out! LOL!!

My New Favorite Song!!

Ok, maybe not favorite but a new song that I love and am going to WEAR OUT! It just made me cry the first time I heard it.

We were attacked by the devil recently and God is blessing me through every minute of it.

We Cry Out

WFMW (Works For Me Wednesday) Fix My 'Want To'

I've had people comment to me that they don't read their Bible or don't have the desire for God. They just don't have a "want to". Just the thought of starting those two things sounds like a monumental task! Well, I'm here to tell you that it's not!

Don't have a desire for God? Ask Him to fix your "want to"!! It's that simple. Just tell Him the truth. After all, it's not like He doesn't know!

Want to start reading your Bible everyday? Start with one verse. Don't go to bed without reading that verse. Eventually, your desire to read more than one verse will grow!

I started off reading a Couple's Devotional Bible (you can get it for as low as .25 cents on Amazon). Throughout it are nice little devotions with a verse at the top. I would read that verse and then I started to have the desire to read the verses around that verse.

Sabbath Rest

Jesus rested... so my thought is, if the creator of the universe needed to rest shouldn't we? Besides the fact that God said in the Old Testament, to rest! Take a Sabbath rest.

I've been reading Exodus (for a while now!) and found this:

Exodus 23: 12 Six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you shall
cease from labor so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your
female slave, as well as your stranger, may refresh themselves. NASB

One of the reasons for a Sabbath rest is to refresh! Oh, shall I take a Sabbath every day? Just kiddin.

We (Dream Latte and I) have to be creative with our "rest". Since he preaches, teaches and ministers and I lead, minister and support him on Sundays, we have to split our rest up. We rest between services on Sunday and part of the day on Monday. When we rest, we literally rest. For us, rest isn't going here and there. Rest isn't doing a bunch of work until we are tired. Sometimes we even zonk out! After Dream Latte preaches he just about passes out!

So, how do you and your family take a Sabbath rest?
P.S. When we get our own home again someday, the first thing I want to get is a huge hammock for my husband and I to lay in! Ooooo, I can't wait!! I've wanted one of these my whole life!

Sweet As Honey

Ever read an email, blog post, or comment that had a harsh tone? Sometimes, people forget to phrase things in a way that is pleasing to they eyes! There are times that we get into a hurry and just want to get our point across.

I read an email today from Maureen at Rocket Phonics and she phrased it in such a sweet, polite way. I wrote her back and thanked her for her kindness.

If you read a sweetly phrased post or email, don't forget to thank them for being polite!

Psalm 119:103
How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Inkheart the Movie

We just watched Inkheart and I loved it! I would classify this movie with The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian and The Princess Bride. Definitely fantasy...

Inkheart is about a man who is nicknamed the Silver Tongue. When he reads a book out loud the characters appear in reality. Of course, that includes bad guys! It's got a little bit of a love story in it, too!

(Young children may be scared of the bad guys.)

Articles of Pure Gold / Braided Hair

I am reading the book of Exodus. Chapter 25 talks about the articles of pure gold that God wants in His sanctuary. He wants His sanctuary to
be bea u ti ful! That made me think, we are His sanctuary now. As Christians, the Holy Spirit resides in us.

Are you, am I, a beautiful sanctuary for the LORD?

1 Peter 3:3-4 Your adornment must not be merely external -- braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.

The New Testament says that our beauty should come from the inside. This is something that I always need to be working on. How about you?

On a lighter note:

I like nice things. I don't always get what I like! LOL! Since reading Exodus and seeing how much God loved gold and other beautiful things, I have a new saying! When my husband and I are going someplace and I say, "I like THAT!" and then I look at the price tag and see that it is way up there, I can just say, "I'm just like my Daddy! I like nice things!" In jest of course! (If you know me, I'm the queen of cheap - I mean frugal!) I promise, I won't use this joking argument to overspend!

How has God been speaking to you lately? Please share...

We Had FUN!

We had so much fun yesterday! We went to a park and explored! I LOVE being surrounded by God's creation. I love it when the Espressos take pleasure in God's creation.

You can see our photos on my homeschool blog.

3 Things You Didn't Know About Me

My very first blog hop, this is exciting!!

1. I quit college to get married! I was waiting for acceptance into the radiology program and decided to get married. Once the plans were well on their way, I got my acceptance letter. We were moving near Lafayette, Indiana and there wasn't a radiology program there at that time. So, I decided to just forget about it and move on with family life!!!

2. I homeschool. No surprise? Well, I used to think that homeschooling was insane and for weirdos! I was VERY against homeschooling! Not too long after thinking that, God started to change my mind. (You can read my story here.)

3. I like to bellydance!! That's right! It is great exercise and very feminine to boot! Of course, I don't do this in front of other people!!!! Oh no, no, no, no! (shaking my finger)

What is your worth based on?

Why is it so hard for women to feel worthy? Why do we try to get our self worth from others instead of our Daddy?

The Virtuous Woman by Vicki Courtney: Chapter 2 "What Are You Worth?"

page 36 How about you? Is your worth based on who you are in Christ, or are you
spinning a hundred different plates of good deeds to feel like you are worth
something? A virtuous woman will get this in the right order. Ephesians 2:10
puts it into perspective: "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

So, why IS it so hard for women (or men) to see who they are in Christ? Why do so many people fill their lives with activities and try to brag about how busy they are? This seems to be a real problem where we live. So many times I've ran into someone and asked how they've been and so many times the answer comes back, "Busy!" I just want to tell them, that's NOT a badge of honor!

In this stage of my life, I am intentionally trying not to fall into this trap. (Maybe to a falt.) I don't WANT to be "busy". I want to do good works that God prepared in advance for me to do but I DON'T want to be that person who is spinning plates, or doing tons of activities, just to feel worthy.

My Mom had a dream and sent it to my husband. Often times when I (or others) have dreams, he has an interpretation. We'll just call him, "Joseph"!!

Not all dreams are meant to be interpreted. Some dreams are a result of what you watched on TV. Some are a result of evil. Some dreams are straight up crazyness out of your own mind. BUT, some dreams are send by God for you or someone else.

Here is the dream with names changed:

Hey...I had a dream last night...we (me, Cherry & Strawberry) were fishing off of a concrete U-shaped dock. Cherry caught a HUGE reddish-pink, green fish with black spots. She had to go down some steps on my side of the dock to pull the fish in. Man-a-live... she was using a HUGE honker of a hook! I yelled, "Don't put your hand in it's mouth. It has teeth". Weird, though, it didn't have teeth in the front part of it's mouth...only on the sides. So, Cherry dragged it up onto the concrete pier and stuck one hand in the lower jaw of it's mouth and finished dragging further away from the edge. Strawberry (a young kid) was just there...watching. Then she went back to the side where she caught it and laid down, panting hard and exhausted. THE END..

The Interpretation:
Cement = The rock of Jesus Christ. She had a solid foundation to go through a trial.
the U shape = God surrounding her - open side of U= the trial (Fish)
the color of the fish = Gods promise (remember the rainbow)
Strawberry= young eyes are watching you go through your trial
The word FAITHFULLNESS comes in - Maybe it has something to do with the faithfullness to follow the directions (commands) given by God (in the dream that would be Janet's Mom, I know it is a huge stretch) she said to hold or grab the fish in a certain way.

Conclusion- While you are going through the trial, you will be surrounded by God and you must follow His directions. He is your solid foundation. There are people who are young Christians watching you so you must hang in there and be faithful to God. In the end, you will be tired but you will have faithfully gone through the trial.

Virtuous, Excellent, Helpmeet

I am reading "the Virtuous Woman - shattering the superwoman myth" by Vicki Courtney. I was truly laughing out loud during the introduction. I was thinking about skipping it but I am so glad that I didn't!

Here she is describing her first thoughts as she started to dig in to Proverbs 31:10-31. (colors added by me)

I have no problem bringing my food from afar, whether it's take-out or the bag-o-burgers deal at Sonic. I was thrilled to find the verse about the maidens and was quick to point it out to my husband. He responded by pointing out the sewing and cooking verses. Ouch. I'll have to pass on planing a vineyard until I can manage to keep a Chia pet alive. As for strengthening her arms, does this mean I can get a personal trainer to help me strengtheneth mine? If my husband's pants need hemming, can I hire someone else to layeth hands to the spindle and still get credit? Can I stretch out y hand to the poor by participating in the canned food drive at my kid's school? I don't care much for wearing purple and silks, but we definitely share a passion for finding the perfect outfit. When it comes to exhibiting the law of kindness, can there be exemptions on days when the toilets need cleaning, the kids are fighting, and I have PMS? Is my Sunday afternoon nap considered the bread of idleness?

I was rotfl!!! I had just snuggled down in my bed for a Sunday afternoon nap when I read this!

I am considering doing a study with some other women. "Created to Be His Helpmeet" and "The Excellent Wife" are two that I am thinking about doing. I am asking God to bring people into my path that HE wants to do this study.

Have you ever done any of these studies or something similar?

Bless My FIL

Bless my father in law! After living for a year in his basement (it's a finished basement with a bedroom and laundry room) someone came up with the idea to get my dishwasher out of storage and install it in the laundry room.

After a year and 2 months of taking turns doing dishes in a washtub, we now get to put them in my dishwasher! I am forever grateful!!!! (He even built a cabinet around it!)

Of course, we didn't come up with this idea because we didn't figure we would be here for more than 3-6 months! God obviously had other plans.

I found a cute picture to share with you!

From this:
To this:
Ok, so we don't let our dog join in the fun but I am
thankful to my FIL and more than that to my
Heavenly Father.

If I Were a...

I found this post idea - "If I Were..." on H-Mama's blog and
she got it from The Bayou Bells.

If I were a flower I would be a dandelion! Dandelions are great for your health and very bright! Herbal Healthcare says this, "The taste of dandelion has been described as cool, sweet, and sometimes bitter." That's me because I am a work in progress!

If I were a song I would be "Shackles" by Mary Mary. I have liked that song ever since I first heard it at a Beth Moore conference. I need Jesus to lift my load. He is the One who has broke the shackles that were on me.

If I were a movie I would be... well to be honest, I hardly watch movies. I can't even think of one that I would be. I need to watch a good movie.

Got any suggestions?

If I were a place I would be a cozy cottage with fluffy pillows and warm blankets.

If I were a book I would be a mystery that takes place in the Bible times. I love to imagine life in the Bible times, smell the food cooking and hear the sounds. I love the mystery of finding Jesus in the Old Testament.

!If I were a holiday I would be one of the Biblical feast; maybe Passover! I love to learn about the feasts and find Jesus in them!

If I were a drink I would be be a tall glass of fresh squeezed lemonade. Sometimes sweet, sometimes sour...

If I were a food I would be enchiladas! Oozy gooey warm and cheesy...

If I were a piece of clothing I would be a 1940's dress! Feminine yet comfortable...

I'd like to know more about YOU! If you do this exercise, please send me your link!

I Love Jesus Yes I Do! I Love Jesus How About YOU?!

This is the song that has been going through my head for the last 2 days.

Jesus: My Deliverer!

I hope you enjoy!

Filled With the Holy Spirit

I am so privileged to know my new friend at church. I'll call her "Pat". She has a son and I'll call him "Jose".

My husband had been praying for people to come to the church. More specifically, he wanted people to wander in and not know why they came in; just to be drawn in by the Holy Spirit.

One Sunday evening, church was about to start and this girl (Pat) and her son came in through the side door. My husband just happened to be standing there so he welcomed them. He said that she looked kind of confused. She told him that she saw the lights on and wanted to come in to see what was going on. He told her that church was about to start and showed them around. They stayed for church and have been coming back ever since.

Pat had just accepted Jesus as her Savior a few weeks before. She was in her car listening to Christian radio and heard the good news. She also called 1888needhim and was told that she needed to find a church now.

Pat continued to grow in the Lord, got baptized and joined the church. Her son, "Jose" is such a good boy. The 2 Espressos are so excited to be his friend as am I. You see, I had prayed for God to send Double Espresso a good, Christian friend. The next thing I new, in walked Pat and Jose.

Yesterday after Sunday school, Jose went to my husband and said that he had some questions and wanted to know what it meant to be saved? My husband took the time before church started, to speak the truth of the gospel to this boy. By the time they were done talking, Jose had clasped his lips together with his fingers and his eyes were welling up with tears. My husband said, "you know what you need to do now, don't you?" He said yes and ran out of the room to the bathroom, and the Lord did the rest.

Pat called right after church and said that Jose would like to be baptized. Praise the Lord for them!

Pat's family, her siblings and her parents all went out to eat last night. Her brother and Jose got into quite a heated debate during dinner about God and church. He was so filled with the Holy Spirit! Jose was quoting Scripture and preaching to his tio (uncle).

These two have grown in the Lord so much in just a couple of months. They are more vocal and passionate about Jesus than some Christians that I know that have been born again for decades.

I am so encouraged by my new friends.

Grace Flows Down

I thank God for His grace and forgiveness.

I was inspired to write this today by a combination of things. One, I lead the worship/music at church and was getting the music ready and decided to do Grace Flows Down tomorrow. Then, I read Sarah Dawn's blog post on Splashin' Glory and was inspired to write this post. (I encourage you to visit her blog.)

About 8 or 9 years ago, I was doing dishes and saw a finger pointing in my face. You know, like,
"you naughty naughty girl". All of the naughty things that I had done in my past started flooding over me. I knew that it wasn't God. It was condemning not convicting. Besides, I had already asked for forgiveness for those things.

After I recognized who was pointing their finger in my face, I let him know who is boss over me and how it was going to be from now on. Now, I use the failures of my past to be an example (yes, I occasionally share them) to others.

I hope you are blessed by this post, Sarah's blog and this song, "Grace Flows Down".

As Unto the Lord

Colossians 3:17
Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name
of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

That verse has come up a lot lately. When I do something difficult, I think to myself, "as unto the Lord". Many, many times when I worked in a nursing home or was doing home care, I had to remember that I wasn't only helping the patient, I was serving Jesus.

It doesn't have to be only when we are doing something difficult. We can do any task no matter how small, "as unto the Lord".

I just want to encourage you (and me), as you finish your week, keep your eyes on Him. Do all tasks, "as unto the Lord".

Civil Duty

I am still shaking. I have mixed feelings.

I just chased down, followed and reported a drunk driver and then saw him do his sobriety test.

The guy pulled out in front of me and could have caused an accident between the two of us and a few others. I was stuck behind him and noticed that he would weave and bump the lines. I was scared to pass for fear that he would side swipe me so I continued to follow.

At first, I thought he may have some sort of palsy so I wasn't going to call. When he pulled into the liquor store, my suspicions were confirmed. I called the police but by the time I got a hold of her, he was already out of the store with a huge bag of liquor and getting back into his car. I told her his plate number and she had me follow him back down the highway.

As I was on the phone with her, she was on the radio with an officer and he went whizzing past me. I told her when he was by the suspect and then I said, "OK! I'm done, good bye!" As I turned around a little further down and came back past, I watched as the officer had the suspect touching his nose.

I am torn because this person could be spending the night in jail, BUT, he was drunk! On the other hand, he also could have killed a family or anyone on his way home.

Oh my... I think I'm calmed down now...
